Current state: in service
This three-axle steam locomotive was made more than 100 years ago by the manufacturer "Forges-Usines & Fonderies De & à Haine-Saint-Pierre " which at the time enjoyed international success exporting locomotives to the many industrialising sides of the world. Locomotives from HSP touched as far afield as Brazil. This locomotive was ordered by "Scheerders Van Kerckhove" to do service on their industrial estate. They traded mainly in building materials and had a large yard where various goods had to be transported from one side to the other during the many production processes that took place. From 1922 to the 1960s, our locomotive drove heavy cement trains from one end to the other. One cement car is still preserved at SDP. In the 1960s, she was then pulled over because there was a leak in the steam boiler.
Her second life only began in the 1980s when she came towards Baasrode station, then still in sad state from the years she had spent outside. However, her first years in custody were not the thanks she deserved after years of work. She stood languishing until 2007, when the association managed to secure a grant from the Flemish government. The grant gave Stoomtrein Dendermonde Puurs the financial means to give HSP 1378 a thorough overhaul from head to toe.
She was almost completely dismantled so that every part could be treated. The years of rust and dirt were taken off over a span of three years. The works on the boiler were a priority, on top of which the capacities for coal and water were increased in order to be able to run the entire route of Museum Railway 52 without having to replenish water and coal halfway through. It is therefore noticeable that the cabin became larger after the restoration. On top of that, a steam pump had to be fitted, a legal requirement for moving a passenger train. In 2010's edition of "Scheldeland in Steam", HSP 1378 rode for the first time for the general public with a dome painted the day before and tenders not yet finished in detail. Since then, our volunteers have been working hard year on year to keep her in service. In 2022, we celebrated her 100th birthday with a special edition of Scheldeland in Steam. She has also already been a guest locomotive at the steam festival of "Stoomtrein Maldegem Eeklo" and at the steam festival of the "Chemin de Fer du Bocq"
