Heritage Day 2026 “HAHA Humour”

The theme of Heritage Day 2026 is “HAHA Humour” - and there is also a lot to smile about on the track. Did you know that one of the very first films ever, L'Arrivée d'un train en gare de La Ciotat from Auguste Lumière and Louis Lumière, caused a stir at its premiere? According to tradition, spectators were so startled by the approaching train that they recoiled into the auditorium. A moment of wonder - and perhaps a little panic - that today mostly evokes a smile.

During Heritage Day, Dendermonde-Puurs Steam Train invites you to discover railway heritage up close in our static exhibition. Historic locomotives, carriages and authentic railway objects tell stories from a time when technology, travel and experience were still full of surprises. There is often humour among the anecdotes and memories: from striking train stories to small human moments behind the big machines.

After your visit, you can have a nice chat at our open terrace, overlooking the railway and in a relaxed atmosphere.
